Giving Thanks Anyway

Thanksgiving is here, the one holiday we celebrate and gather as families and friends to give thanks.
It is that simple.

We all know this year is different. And truly, I am weary. We all are.
What we probably thought would be a sprint has turned into an ultra marathon.

I could stay in that place of discouragement, but I have lived there before for far too long.
Instead, I am choosing to give thanks.

I could list a thousand things I am thankful for. Here are just a few:
I am thankful for my husband of 39 years who is a rock.
Kids and grandkids who never fail to bring me joy (even in the tantrums).
My wonderful Treadlettes - you are truly the heart of Treadle. (Thank you Mary Daley for your vision.)
Beautiful fall weather and time in the outdoors to restore my soul.

In addition, I am thankful for your generosity.
Treadle has been able to get over 25,000 masks into the community. The store has remained open. Yes, some things are hard to find, others almost impossible. It will get better.

We are currently collecting masks for these organizations in need:

Bridges to Safety  http://www.bridgestosafety.org
Groveland Food Shelf  http://www.grovelandfoodshelf.org
Minnesota Community Care  https://www.mncare.org
Cedar Riverside neighborhood through Mixed Blood Theatre  https://mixedblood.com

Treadle will continue to provide mask kits free of charge for anyone willing to sew for those in need.

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9

Thank you for your continued support of each and every small, local business.

Welcome Back!

We are excited to welcome back our customers and friends beginning Monday May 18.

Thank you all for your patience and support over the past weeks. We have been fielding countless phone orders and questions with very limited hours and just a skeleton crew. When we have been less than at our best, thank you for grace.

As we prepare to open our doors for walk-in business, we continue to ask for your patience.

For your safety as well as ours:

MASKS are required, for both staff and customers.

MAXIMUM 5 customers in the store; limit of 3 in a customer group.

Let’s catch up, but DISTANT socializing only - 6 ft intervals.

Hand sanitizer is available.

Hours will be limited - Mon May 18 thru Fri May 22 10 - 5 and Sat May 23 10 - 2
Please check our website or call for current store hours as we may need to adjust weekly.

Regular sanitizing of frequently touched surfaces may require more time - again, patience.

Curbside pickup will continue for those who prefer to place phone orders. We are also diligently working towards online sales capabilities and what/how sewing classes may continue. Keep your eyes open for exciting possibilities!

We have met so many new friends over the phone - we hope to see you soon!

Treadle Update re: COVID-19

Dear Treadle customers,

Each day brings us news of the coronavirus reaching further into our lives. As we move into uncertain times, Treadle will remain open regular hours, keeping things normal as long as we are able.

We are following current best practices: washing hands often and wiping down frequently touched surfaces - frequently (door handles, cutting counters, scissors, keypads, and more). Employees who do not feel well stay home.

Classes will be modified to accommodate social distancing. As classes are limited to 6 students or less, we are able to do this using both our classroom and Sew Together Space. Classes that are not able to be split will be postponed. If you are registered for a class in the next 2 weeks, you will be contacted regarding the status of that class.

We have seen many of you in the past few days as you plan for some down time. We hope to continue to share project ideas, new fabrics as they arrive, and the joy of success at a completed garment. We love doing that in person and being there for our customers. Treadle has always been a wonderful community of creative sewists.

Yet if you are no longer comfortable coming in, we will be happy to supply your fabric and creative needs in several ways. For inspiration, continue to check Facebook, Instagram, and our website/blog for new fabrics and projects. For purchases, we are happy to ship (as always) or we can supply curb-side pick-up.

I like to think that Treadle will always be here as a resource for our customers, many of whom we call friends. Right now, for the good of our community, doing business responsibly takes precedence. I also recognize that there may be small businesses that do not survive this. These are your neighbors and friends. For all of us, be kind.

This renowned resource for fine garment sewists of all levels has kept readers stretching their skills for decades. We are proud to be featured!

The article was written by Paula DeGrand, longtime Treadle customer and blogger at Getting Things Sewn. We think Paula did a great job capturing the Twin Cities' vibrant sewing scene!

You can see a limited digital preview here, but for the real deal, just stop by Treadle! We have a stack of copies of issue #171 for sale, and more on the way.

Important News

Dear Friends of Treadle,

As Bob Dylan wrote, “for the times they are a changin’.” This has been a challenging year at Treadle. Following a banner year in 2012, sales this year have been very soft and we find ourselves struggling to survive. My Parkinson’s Disease has progressed and I find I must make some concessions in order to lighten my work load and stress level. I have been seeking a buyer for Treadle for over 9 months. While several individuals have expressed interest and explored the possibility of a purchase, as of this writing, no one has been able to put together a viable proposal. Barring a sale, Treadle will close sometime in the first half of 2014.

I would love to see Treadle continue to serve the incredibly talented and wonderful sewing enthusiasts we have come to know and love. My heart and soul have gone into this place and I have come to know so many caring, warm, funny and compassionate women and men, and feel so blessed to be able to call you my friends. My fabulous band of hard working, creative co-workers is ready to carry on under new ownership and I have pledged to stay on as long as needed during the transition.

Be on the lookout for news of a potential crowd funding campaign and changes to our hours of operation. Please know how grateful we are for your support. We are working very hard to find a way to allow Treadle to continue.

Warmest regards,
Mary Daley and the crack staff at Treadle
