Cotton Trims

I love this collection of cotton ribbons and tape trims.

With dashed stripes that mimic stitching or narrow stripes reminiscent of cotton shirting, the subdued quality of this group is appealing.

Use a piece inside a classic shirt for a hidden detail or to peek out inside a cuff.  Add a couple ribbon stripes to the hem of a gathered skirt for an un-fussy embellishment.

Rayon Batik Scarves

The bright batik scarves that were such a hit this spring at Treadle are in stock again!

These scarves are beautiful and unique, printed with geometric or representational designs and saturated with vibrant color.

The rayon fabric is drapey and smooth, comfortable to wear and easy to care for.  Each scarf measures 11" by 72" and may be machine washed and air dried.

Cat in the Hat fleece

We don't get a lot of poly fleece in at Treadle, so this group, printed with the Cat in the Hat and other Dr. Seuss designs, is exciting.

This large panel of the Cat in the Hat measures the perfect size for a cozy lap quilt.  It was too big to even get the whole piece in the photograph!

There are also two pieces with allover patterns of Seuss characters and book titles.

Corduroy

A crisp autumn day just begs for soft, tactile fabrics like corduroy.  Layer a sleeveless corduroy dress over leggings and a long-sleeved shirt, or make a pair of corduroy trousers to wear with a sweater and short boots, and you are ready to stroll through the bright, chilly morning.

We have a lovely selection of new corduroy colors to choose from at Treadle!

Organic Cotton Prints

We have a small group of new pieces in our Organic section at Treadle.

Organic cotton is grown without the use of harmful synthetic pesticides, and is printed with low-impact dyes to reduce the ecological footprint of the manufacturing process.  The conventional cotton industry uses 16% of the world's insecticides, more than any other single major crop.

However, it's hard to go completely green unless you have a good alternative to conventional fabrics, so it's nice to see such cute prints available in organic.

New Sign!

We have a new open sign at Treadle!

Made of wool felt reverse-appliquéd with batik by Treadlette Jess, we have now ditched the plastic in favor of something that fits better with our style.

Missoni

We have a couple new pieces in the store from Missoni: this multi-colored zigzag/wave stripe in two colorways.

The fabric is viscose, made in a soft, open knit.  It has a beautiful drape and smooth feel.

Either of these would make a stunning dress, or you could soften the visual impact by making a top or skirt to blend with plainer coordinate pieces.

You can find these shelved with the wool knits at Treadle.

New Class Schedule!

The Fall and Winter Treadle Class Schedule is up on our website!  To view the new schedule, click here.

In addition to the great general sewing classes for all skill levels, there are a few new offerings and a few seasonal classes returning to the schedule.

Sewing Cute Clothes For Kids with the Material Girls is one that caught my eye.  Who doesn't want to make cute, simple garments for the little ones in their lives?  Cozy Flannel Loungers, an always-popular project class for making basic pajama bottoms, is back.  Coat Craze with Sara Langworthy is a great way to enliven your winter wardrobe.  Curvy Corsets is a new class that will guide you through Victorian-style corset construction.

Pattern Alteration and Copy Ready-to-Wear are two classes for the Intermediate sewist hoping to take their sewing to the next level.  We now have two Hand Sewing classes, a Basic level for beginning skills, and an Advanced Beginning class to learn hand-sewn buttonholes and hems.

There's an Oilcoth class coming up as well, focusing on craft projects such as baskets and bags.  Holiday Fun Stuff With Felt is a great class for kids, suitable for those as young as 6 if accompanied by an adult, and 9 if working independently.

There is so much more in the complete schedule.  To sign up for classes, either stop by the store or register by phone at 651-698-9690.

Liberty Lawn

We have a new group of cotton lawn at Treadle from Liberty of London.  Here are a few of the new pieces.

The overall feel of this group is muted and autumnal by comparison to the bright Liberty prints we had in spring.  Even this delectable field of grass scattered with flowers feels like late summer.

This cotton lawn would make a lovely blouse to layer with linen or corduroy for a cool autumn day.  Or get a yard and a half to make a large square scarf to tuck around your neck with a plain dress and jacket.
