Treadlette Tuesday: Kristin's Dress

Kristin's latest project is this fabulous shift dress with wide, dramatic sleeves.

Kristin altered the neckline to eliminate the tie and simply made a band that went all the way around.

The pattern is from the July 2018 issue of Burda Style magazine.

Treadlette Tuesday: Linen and Lace Top

Material Girl Kristin made this fabulous top with printed floral linen and sheer embroidered lace sleeves!

Let's see a detail of that sleeve! Such a stunning way to blend two very unique fabrics.

Kristin used Burda 6429 to make this top. That flutter sleeve is perfect for the embroidered net lace!

Kids Clothes Classes!

We have TWO kids clothes classes coming up: one for adults, and one for kids to sew for themselves!

First, check out this adorable tunic and hoodie cape, just a couple of examples of what you can make in the Sewing Kids Clothes class! This class is for adults to learn to sew something great for a kid of any age.

Next up, we've got Kids Sewing Club, where kids 9-14 can create their own wardrobe! We have after school sessions as well as summer sessions!

The next Sewing Kids Clothes class (for adults) is April 17.

Summer Sewing Camps and Classes for Kids are now open for registration!

KID'S BEGINNING SEWING
Have some fun while you learn to use your sewing machine! Make a pillowcase and use your first pattern to make pj pants or a skirt. Bring your sewing machine or use one of ours. Pattern and fabric will be purchased on first day with instructor’s help. Project cost NOT included in class fee and will vary with project chosen.
Skill level: Beginner

KID'S ADVANCED BEGINNING SEWING AND MORE
Be creative, have fun and play more with your sewing machine. If you know how to use a sewing machine, you are ready to choose a project from a pattern that will challenge you, but not make you cry. Choose a pattern that inspires you and try something new - like zippers, knits or facings! Enroll in more than one week to complete several garments or for more challenging projects. Project cost NOT included in class fee and will vary with project chosen. Instructors will guide students in choosing patterns.
Prerequisite: Must have previously sewn with a pattern (take our beginner class first)
Skill level: Advanced beginner and up

KIDS' SUMMER SEWING CLUB
Not a true camp, but a chance to sew all summer long! Come as a new beginner or hone your skills on some fun summer patterns. We’ve chosen the best patterns for summer tops, dresses, skirt or shorts. Take one session or both and complete a summer outfit! Bring your sewing machine (or use one of ours) and basic sewing supplies. Project will be chosen in first class. Project cost NOT included in class fee and will vary with project chosen.

Get To Know Us: Material Girls

You may have met Material Girls Debbie and Kristin at a class, or at Fashion Sewing Club. These ladies teach at Treadle, and they really know their stuff!

Their specialties include sergers, sewing with knits, and fashion sewing for all ages! Debbie and Kristin love exploring modern styles and new trends. They always know the latest designer patterns, like Marcy and Katherine Tilton's artful designs, or fresh new looks from independent pattern companies like Jalie.

Fashion Sewing Club: Now Three Times A Month!

The Material Girls are busy sewing for next Tuesday and Saturday Fashion Sewing Club meetings! They’ve added a Tuesday evening meeting at Treadle - now you have THREE opportunities per month to catch this great club! Every second Tuesday morning, Tuesday evening, or Saturday morning.

Material Girls Kristin and Debbie lead the Club, bringing you fresh sewing ideas and sharing their wealth of experience.

They've also recently added a third partner! We're looking forward to meeting Katie at this month's Club.

At Fashion Sewing Club, your first meeting is always free! After that, regular meetings are $10, but now through March, Tuesday evening meetings are just $5.

We're all looking forward to new faces, so stop by this Tuesday or Saturday for some Fashion Sewing Club fun!

Classes in Depth: Summer Sewing: Marcy Tilton Jacket

The Material Girls have a whole new Summer Sewing Series, multiple classes to help you put together some fun wardrobe basics and have a great time, too!

The first class in the Summer Sewing Series is the Marcy Tilton Jacket. Using Vogue 9244, you'll make a versatile lightweight jacket, perfect for Minnesota summers, unpredictable weather, and moving in and out of air-conditioned spaces.

Cool pockets, a casual hood, and shaped hemline make this jacket unique and fun. Your fabric choice can transform this pattern from just a little cover up to a stand alone “upscale sweatshirt."

The class will cover techniques for sewing with knits on your regular sewing machine, but we recommend having some experience sewing with knits. Serger construction will also be covered, so if you have a serger and love it, bright it along!

This class is Tuesday 6:00 - 8:00 June 6, 13, and 20

A Little Sparkle

This knit top demonstrates not only a perfect pairing of two fabrics, but also a great way to add a little sparkle without going overboard.

Made from a luscious cashmere knit paired with a just-shiny-enough sequined fabric, this top is the best of both worlds.

This top was made by Material Girl Kristin using Very Easy Vogue 8877. The Material Girls are always sewing something new and exciting! You can catch their latest at several Treadle classes, or at Fashion Sewing Club, every second Tuesday and Saturday at Treadle Yard Goods.

Blouse Class at Treadle

Ready to jump into Spring sewing?  The Material Girls have just the class for you!

In Blouses Streamlined, you'll use a basic pattern and learn fast, simple techniques to create a garment as nice to wear as it is to sew!  Forget the fuss; these streamlined techniques make creating new Spring styles a breeze.  Choose one of our beautiful cotton lawns for a stunning addition to your wardrobe.

Blouses Streamlined begins next Tuesday, April 9th from 2-4 pm; the second session is April 16th.  Call Treadle at 651-698-9690 to register!

Crinkled Knits

We have a few new knits in, and among the more unique is this group with a crinkled texture.

This fabric has a soft, crushed texture with lots of stretch.  We currently have it in three colors.

If you like sewing with knits like this, or have always wanted to try, check out the Material Girls' Designer Tees Class at Treadle.  Each of the four separate sessions through the early spring will focus on working with a different designer knit tee pattern.  Sign up for one or all of them!  The first session is Wednesday, February 20th and the pattern is a Katherine Tilton design for Vogue.

Upcoming Class: Sewing Cute Clothes for Kids!

This class with the Material Girls is designed for the busy mom with little time but would love to make cute clothes for their child.  We will select several patterns, get you started in class and lay out steps for you to complete at home.  Beginners are welcome.  Come to one session or all.  Fun group sewing time!

Projects include a super simple pillowcase dress, pants, shorts, button dress, pajamas, and more!  Kristin and Debbie will help you select a project that's right for your skill level.

Make a Duct Tape Double

Are you frustrated with your dressmaking dummy because it doesn't really match your shape?  Or perhaps you've avoiding buying an expensive dummy because it's just not close enough?  Here's a simple solution: make your own dress dummy - out of duct tape!

Next week at Treadle, the Material Girls will be hosting a workshop to create your own duct tape double.  You'll end up with a dress dummy that perfectly matches your figure.
