Treadle Tuesday: A Vintage Vogue Bridal Gown!

Treadlette Rebecca made this fabulous vintage-style bridal gown from a Vintage Vogue pattern. The stunning double collar is a gorgeous focal point!

We love the elegant 1940s lines and all-over lace!

Rebecca used these sparkly clear buttons and made tidy bound buttonholes. She also added a small panel underneath to attach the buttons to.

Rebecca used Vogue pattern 9280, seen with the great original illustrations here.

Rebecca didn't have a specific event to make this dress for - she just got inspired and wanted to make it!

Neutral Silk Crepe

Bright colors are eye-catching, but sometimes they aren't the most flattering or appropriate to the occasion, or may simply not be your style. A neutral shade like these, in delicate, soft pastel silk crepe, can be the perfect fabric for you.

Dressmaker's Essentials

Sewing isn't just about the fun, flashy fabrics. Sometimes you need plainer fabrics to help support your stars, especially with formal and bridal sewing. We've put together a group of essential dressmaking fabrics to share with you. They may not be the most exciting on their own, but they'll lend an invaluable hand to your sewing!

(We've photographed most of these over blue paper to better show the texture.)

First up, a soft, draping, sheer white net. This is a gorgeous alternative to traditional bridal veiling. It would also give soft support as a petticoat under formal dresses.

This soft cotton bobbinette is a rich creamy ivory color and another perfect veiling material. It would also be a gorgeous base for traditional embroidery to give a needlepoint lace effect.

Our new cotton organdy is semi-sheer and paper-crisp. Use it for rustling petticoat ruffles and interfacing hems on silk.

Our new nylon crinoline is super sheer and so stiff you could practically build a ship with it! Use for supporting the fullest ballgown skirts and the heaviest bridal satin.

Horsehair braid in various widths is a crisp hem essential. When you need a structured edge, horsehair braid is the answer. The wider widths have a small cord woven in; to shape the braid around a curved hem, simply pull the cord to draw in one edge!

This soft dotted netting is another lovely alternative to traditional tulle veiling.

The dotted net is also available in black!

Don't overlook these dressmaking essentials. Treadle Yard Goods has you covered!

New Trims!

Trims are the frosting on your sewing project. Add a little detail and make your garment special with the right trimming. We have lots of new selections to choose from!

Here are some of our newest white and cream lace edgings. Choose a fine delicate one to edge a bridal veil or create an heirloom project, or use a wider edging to decorate a skirt hem for a petticoat look.

If white lace is not your look, take a look at these new lace edgings in black and rich colors!

Why use plain old bias tape when a floral bias tape adds such wonderful charm? These single-fold tapes can finish an armhole or neckline, or applique them down like a ribbon.

And the polka dot ribbons below are twice as fun - they're reversible!

Does your project need a little trim?

Lace Trims and Edgings

Last week we shared some beautiful bridal lace here on the blog, and today we're showing off some coordinating trims and edgings.

Like the lace yardage, these have all been photographed on a background of champagne-colored silk in order to show the detail. First we have some netted and embroidered edgings in shades of ivory and cream. Perfect for bridal wear or any dressy garment!

If pure white is your color, take a look at these lovely options.

These two galloon laces are absolutely covered in beads and sequins. They have decorative scallops on each edge for use as an overlay or insertion. The larger lace may be trimmed apart around the motifs to make two separate pieces of edging.

There's always more to see when you stop by our store!

Bridal Lace

At Treadle Yard Goods, we have a large and ever-changing selection of fine bridal fabrics, including luscious lace you won't find anywhere else, from delicate, frothy Chantilly lace to heavily beaded and embroidered Alencon.

Here of a few of our newest lace fabrics. Each of these beautiful laces was photographed over a champagne-colored silk satin background in order to show the details.

This delicate lace has large motifs outlined in very fine cord on an embroidered net ground.

This light-as-air net lace has a beautiful allover pattern.

Rich embroidery, beading, and corded edges make this ivory floral lace stand out.

This corded, embroidered, and sequined lace can be used as it is, or the floral cluster motifs can easily be snipped apart to be re-appliqued where desired.

This guipure lace has flowing paisley motifs and an elegant edging.

Swirls of narrow organza ribbon appliqued to a net surface make this lace light as a cloud.

Finally, this Chantilly lace has long, organic motifs and a delicate scalloped edge that combine for a not-too-floral look.

We also have a wonderful selection of lace edgings and trims. We'll be sharing some of those on this blog later in the week, so stay tuned!
