a sweet dress

Take a look at this sweet dress for a little girl, made by Treadlette Jess.

Jess used the Apple-Picking Dress pattern from Oliver + S, an independent pattern company renowned for their adorable children's designs.

Sweet details here include a softly gathered skirt, a bow at the neck, double rows of buttons, and 3/4 length sleeves gathered into a narrow band. Love how Jess matched the button colors to the balloons in the print!

This fabric is part of a group by Marisa for Andover, which also includes this adorable print. Hold on tight, guys!

New Oliver + S Patterns

We have three new patterns in the store from independent design company Oliver + S.

Longtime fans of Oliver + S will notice that they have changed their trademark pattern envelope, switching out the charming illustrations for sweet photographs of real kids in real garments. Now it's easier to visualize exactly what the garment will look like when sewn, and the pattern and instructions inside are still the same great quality we've come to love.

Sew something sweet and stylish for the little ones in your life! With sizes from six months to kids' 12 and a broad range of styles, you'll find something perfect for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, or grade-school kids.

Pinwheel Tunic

We recently received the new Oliver + S patterns in our store, and Treadlette Jess has already whipped up a sample of the Pinwheel Tunic!

Jess used a sweet cotton print with a small-scale floral design and a contrast binding that pops.  When making children's clothes, small-scale designs keep the print from overwhelming the garment, and a sweet pattern like this is a great recipe for cute!

New Oliver + S Patterns

We have a couple new patterns in at Treadle from independent pattern company Oliver + S, the Roller Skate Dress and the Pinwheel Tunic.

Oliver + S makes patterns for children's clothes from size 6 months to kids' 12 in sweet, timeless designs with subtle modern details.  Each pattern cover is charmingly illustrated with a paper doll and outfit.

There are other sweet details as well, such as ranking the sewing difficulty in number of scissor symbols.  More scissors = more challenging!  The patterns come with clear, fully illustrated directions, making each one a pleasure to sew.

Sew something sweet for the little ones in your life!  Come check out these and the variety of other children's sewing patterns available at Treadle.

New Fabrics

Hi All,
First of all we enjoyed seeing so many people at the Sewing Expo last week. Thanks so much for making that day a success!
Second, we have more and more new and fun fabrics coming in all the time, and I thought I would highlight some of the cuter ones for kids that we received this week.
First, there is a darling group of fabrics from Quilting Treasures featuring the beloved children's story Goodnight Moon.
This panel would work well in a quilt or pillow for the baby's room, or you could simply mount it on a frame and have some instant artwork.
The other exciting new fabric line comes from Moda and Oliver + S - Cape Ann.
We carry these adorable fabrics in both flannel and cotton broadcloth.

If you make anything from either of these new lines of fabric, please upload them to our Treadle Flickr Group.
Happy Sewing!

Second, we have these terrific pieces from the new Vogue catalog, all designed by Katherine Tilton.
These patterns are quite versatilePattern #8691 was used for both the gray and brown tops, and #8690 for the v-neck tops.
We have this pattern in a solid and a stripe which really highlights the interesting lines in the top.

Along with these fascinating pieces, we have so much new fabric, I don't quite know where to start!

Yesterday our favorite UPS driver brought the new fabric from Liesl Gibson at Oliver + S.

These fabrics have the same whimsy that we expect from the Oliver + S line of patterns, and they feel terrific! I may have to make myself a top, they're all so cute!
Add to that a full complement of wools,

and some wonderful fleeces

and we are set up for the fall!
