Sewing Boxes

We have a beautiful new selection of sewing boxes at Treadle.

These boxes are firm and sturdy, with a lightly padded cover of bright printed fabric. Inside there is an accessory tray, pincushion, and plenty of room to store all your essential notions and tools. There are two sizes, and each fabric print is unique.

You need a place to store your sewing stuff, so why not combine form with function? Ditch the shoebox and pick up one of these beauties! Any of them would make a perfect gift for the sewist in your life, or treat yourself!

Two Smart Wool Projects

Here are two smart garments made by Mary to inspire your autumn wool sewing!

The pink bouclĂ© jacket, made from Butterick 5927, is evocative of the Chanel classic, with a collarless jewel neckline, high-hip length, and richly textured fabric.  A collarless jacket is not only stylish, it's also a great time saver! The sewing is quicker without any collar pieces to fuss with, making this jacket quick and easy for so many skill levels.

The vest, made from Butterick 5958 in a thick wool Melton, is shaped to the figure with princess seams which are in turn highlighted with topstitching. A unique button becomes the focal point when paired with a solid fabric.

Come into Treadle and get inspired! We'll see you there.

Autumnal knit cowl top

Wondering how you can make sewing with knits transition from summer to autumn? Here's a lovely example. Made in the heathered striped knits seen here, these softly blended colors are just right to take you into cooler weather.

The pattern is Butterick 5954, a knit top with gracefully draped fronts perfect for layering. The soft cowl is cozy and adds visual interest. And the swingy hemline adds a little movement to a brisk walk through the autumn leaves!

A sweet baby project

Here is a lovely little project from Treadlette Michelle. A sweet baby jacket, made in white cotton pique and lined in bright floral cotton lawn.

Michelle used Simplicty 2900, a re-issued vintage pattern, to make this charming jacket.

What really makes the garment wonderful is Michelle's delicate hand embroidery.

This jacket is currently on display at Treadle, so you can stop by and take a look!

A Late Summer Dress

It's not too late to whip up a quick summer dress that can take you into autumn with a little layering. This dress made by Mary would be just the thing.

To make this dress, Mary used Butterick 5488 and a heavier weight, slightly textured cotton from designer Amy Butler's Alchemy collection. The short sleeves keep the heavy fabric from overwhelming the wearer, and the fabric's soft, thick drape emphasizes the pleats falling from the round yoke.

Come into Treadle and find your perfect late summer dress today!

Chambray and Stripes

We have some lovely new selections in our cotton shirting section. These chambrays and striped pieces have a subtle, subdued charm.

The hand is smooth but soft, with a comfortable drape. The solids have the white filler yarns typical of chambray, creating a heathered effect, while the striped fabrics explore color blending with a range of mellow variations.

These fabrics are ideal for the classic shirt, but would also be great for dresses, skirts, or even lightweight pants.
